The Healing Prayer Ministry at Covenant Church is comprised of individuals who, in groups of two, are available to listen, love and pray. Each team member has agreed to hold all prayer requests in complete confidence, connecting the person into the healing power of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Those on the prayer team are not intending to be counselors or to become a support group for prayer recipients, but are simply present to intercede for needs, trusting the Lord to carry the burdens and provide the healings that are needed.
The healing prayer team offers prayer every Sunday on the altar during celebration of the Lord’s Supper. This “altar prayer ministry” (APM) is the primary role of the team, providing an opportunity each week to connect those in need with the loving compassion and limitless power of Christ. People can come to receive prayer for themselves, for relationships, for work situations, for physical problems, for loved ones, for any need. The time available for each person is fairly brief during this type of prayer, but with God present, a long time to listen and pray is not mandatory. The prayer team also offers two other forms of prayer ministry – “individual prayer ministry” (IPM) and “emergency prayer ministry” (EPM).
Individual prayer is an intensive one-hour long session or series of sessions that focus on personal issues that are likely to be emotional or behavioral in nature rather than physical. An IPM consists of meeting with a specialized team of two prayer team members trained to seek God’s healing to overcome long-term problems that may be rooted in abuse, fear, addiction or unknown causes. This prayer approach is not a substitute for counseling or therapy, but is an opportunity to seek God’s healing grace and transformative power.
Emergency prayer is available for sudden crises such as severe illnesses, hospitalization and hospice care. An EPM team can supplement what others may already be doing in prayer for loved ones and dear friends with a serious need, usually of a physical nature.
Participation on the prayer team is by invitation only due to the level of training and confidentiality that is required. While all prayer team members participate in the altar prayer ministry, only a few have received further training for the individual prayer ministry. Participation in the emergency prayer ministry is usually based on availability due to the time sensitive nature of those requests. Participation as a recipient of prayer is available to all. During Communion, the team is on the altar and those desiring prayer come to the front right pew of the Sanctuary and are prayed for in order of their arrival. If more intensive individual prayer is desired, please contact the church office and prayer team leaders will be notified. For emergency prayer team response, please contact the church office.
